Medical Electronics is an emerging branch of engineering, established in the year 2017 with an intake of 60 students under the affiliation of Anna University. Our department's aim is to provide quality education in the field of Medical Electronics. The department has qualified and technically competent faculties with a good academic, industrial and research background. The Department is fully equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories such as Instrumentation, DSP, Digital Image Processing and Medical Instrumentation. As a part of the curriculum, industrial visits are arranged for B.E. students and we provide hands-on training on various types of medical equipment from Medical College and Hospital. Students can also actively participate in the field of research by utilising facilities in MEMS Design and Research Centre which is present in our college.
ABOUT THE COURSE: Medical electronics course gives a way over-engineering with medical science by laying strong knowledge in electronics. It focuses on the physiological functions of the human body and integrates it with engineering principles to apply different techniques, skills, tools to solve clinical and healthcare problems for the patient needs like prostheses, medical information systems, artificial organs, instrumentation, care delivery systems, and health management. At the end of the course, students will have the ability to identify and design devices or systems for medical purposes and understand the ethical and professional responsibility for engineering practice.

Engineering College has established the Department of Biomedical Engineering in the year 2006.Department of Biomedical Engineering offers UG in Biomedical Engineering and PG in Medical Electronics. Faculty members are doing in-house research and publishing papers in peer reviewed international journals and conferences.Our facultymembers have the following areas of expertise such as: Biosignal and Medical image processing, Rehabilitation engineering, Biomedical instrumentation.
The department has signed MoU’s with industries and research organizations for faculty training, students training and placement. Visits to hospitals, Equipment manufacturing & maintenance, Industries and Research Centres form part of our core curriculum, so that the students get first-hand knowledge in these areas. Industrial training and Project training are arranged for all students to develop their practical and working knowledge.

Our students have won prizes in the national level innovation design contest. Keeping the employability of the graduates in mind, we offer value added labs using latest software and also offer special programmes on communication skills and soft skills so that they are technical experts as well as confident personalities in today's competitive job market.
The department has organized many National seminars, Workshops and Faculty development programmes on various topics of biomedical engineering in association with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and Atomic Energy and Regulatory Board (AERB), India.
